Subject: New Charity in Town!
"WE ARE ONE COMMUNITY" fund - new charitable giving fund for working men and women.
We are proud to announce that we have a charitable giving fund and we're excited to invite you to join us in our newest endeavor. This is a donor advised fund with 99% of every donation going directly to services in our community. We will collect donations for 12 months and then distribute the money to not-for-profit organizations. A volunteer committee of working men and women will determine which charities to gift the money to. If you would like to volunteer to be on this panel (in 2012) or have suggestions for worthy charities, please e-mail us at labornews@hotmail.com or visit us on our new Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/We-Are-One-Community-Fund/103692413058110. Working families have always been generous and we will continue to give in a strong front of solidarity. Thanks for making Decatur a great place to live, work, and retire. You can help by sending donations to: WE ARE ONE COMMUNITY, c/o The Community Foundation, 125 N. Water Street, Suite 200, Decatur, IL 62523... and ask your union and international union to do the same.
United Way Ends Labor Partnership
You have heard by now that United Way in Decatur has ended their partnership with organized labor that has lasted nearly 50 years. They did this with no prior notice, no good-faith bargaining and no good reason. Below is a list of Executive Board members and their addresses. Please take the time to send them your displeasure with their decision. Additionally, any conversation you can have with your union employed place of business would help as well. Several of the top 10 companies were union-employed and if labor doesn't give to United Way, they company looks bad too. Send Bill Francisco copies of what you did or e-mail us back and let us know. We appreciate your support!!
