Illinois Fathers

My Dear Fellow Members,
(This Mar. 15, 2011 update replaces all previous call-to-actions) Japan is in chaos and nuclear catastrophe. Libya and several other places around the globe are in intense conflict. Our American soldiers are on the front lines in sand filled trenches.  And we, and WE, are back here in relative comfort.  Progress has never, ever been achieved from the comfort zone. Progress never ever rolled into town on the wheels of inevitability. Progress has only come about by people struggling towards progress.  So with all the intensity around the world, how could it be too much to ask to ask that you make a few phone calls today?? It couldn’t be too much to ask.  Our first and number one priority should be to get that yes vote commitment on HB 1604, the Steven Watkins Bill, from your Illinois House Representative who you can find at
www.ilga.gov.  A parallel effort is being made in the Illinois Senate, but it is in danger of dying. Our second, but very critical, priority should be to make a phone call TODAY to the 2 senators below to POLITELY encourage them to bring SB 2197 and SB 2198 to an “oral argument hearing.”  These 2 bills SB 2197(Equal Parenting Bill) and SB 2198(Steven Watkins Bill), WILL DIE if they are not called to an “oral argument hearing” THIS WEEK!!!  So, this means you need to call TODAY, I say again TODAY the 2 senators below to request that SB 2197 and SB 2198 be brought to an “oral argument hearing” ASAP.  If you are the type of “activist” who constantly bends the ears of your friends, co-workers and family complaining that you’re not getting time with your children and you can’t make a phone to support these bills then I feel sorry for you and mostly for your children.  Show some sincerity today, make the calls.

By the way, Illinois Fathers, unlike most organizations, does not charge dues or donations.  But as you can imagine, holding rallies in Springfield, newsletters, flyers, etc. takes a certain amount of money.  So far, most of this burden has been born by the friends and family of Steven Watkins with their annual fundraiser, and also Illinois Fathers’ board members.  Please donate what you can towards the effort.  Illinois Fathers is not-for-profit and your generous donation of any amount would help defray the cost our movement towards progress for YOU and YOUR children.

Please, please, please just take a few precious moments out of your comfort zone and make the 3 aforementioned calls TODAY.  SO much progress that we have made together is ready to wither on the vine of neglect if we don’t make these phone calls TODAY!  See you in the trenches…

This was written by Board Member Richard Thomas with the expressed permission of the board of Illinois Fathers and the area coordinators throughout Illinois.
