Within months of the new health-care law’s adoption, five states passed laws barring plans sold on exchanges from covering abortion except in restricted cases.
This year, 22 state legislatures have been considering bills that would ban abortion coverage by plans sold on exchanges, except in restricted cases.
Eight of these states are also considering bills that would bar all private plans from covering abortion, not just those sold on exchanges:
