Host a DREAM Act watch party!

The vote on the DREAM Act is happening TOMORROW. Last night, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid filed for cloture, which means the vote will happen sometime tomorrow. Senator Reid is getting down to business early in the morning, and we could have a vote before 10:00 AM EST!
Just head over to our Facebook page, create your party, and then make sure to tell us and all your friends about it. Invite everyone over for some breakfast and watch your hard work pay off.

(Expect more holiday song parodies about the DREAM Act from us. This caroling meme is going to take off.)
Earlier this week CHIRLA held a demonstration in downtown Los Angeles advocating for the DREAM Act. Dr. Suess’s Grinch tried to steal the DREAM Act away from students who would benefit from it, while they banded together to stop him. Together, they showed why the Senate shouldn’t wait to pass the DREAM Act, while the Grinch glowered.

The story of how the Grinch stole Christmas often gets told this time of year. A mean, miserly creature doesn’t want anyone else to have joy or happiness, and so he takes (what he thinks are) all the sources of joy and happiness that people have. But when he sees what he’s done, he repents. The Grinch’s small heart grows three sizes, and he makes things right for everyone. (Sound like any senators you know should hear this story?) The Grinch’s story is one of redemption: no matter all the statements he’d made and things he’d done to make people unhappy, when push came to shove he realized that he needed to do the right thing. He stood up to right his own wrongs and gave those he’d hurt everything they deserved.

The Grinch’s story is important because it shows us that even the people we don’t think will stand with us can do the right thing and join us. That’s where we are with the DREAM Act right now. There are still senators who need to hear from us. Whether you’re a student who would be affected by the DREAM Act or a supporter who wants Congress to do the right thing, your voice can make a difference. Call 866-996-5161 to tell the Senate to pass the DREAM Act
