Let's Get To Work
A message from Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz
It’s been five weeks since the House Republican leadership convened the 112th Congress, and we've yet to see any legislation brought to the floor to spur job creation, as they promised.
Instead, they spent ten hours this week talking about how Congress should perform oversight duties. Forgive me if I point out that this is one of the main responsibilities of Congress. Don’t waste ten hours talking about it, just do it.
Our economy is showing clear signs of recovery, but it is fragile and there is still much more work to do. There are too many Americans out of work and even more struggling to make ends meet. It’s our responsibility here in Congress to do everything we can to help them succeed.
While they haven’t considered any legislation to spur job growth, they have brought forward divisive legislation that would take away the rights of American women to make their own private medical decisions. Several extreme bills, including H.R. 3, the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act”, go far beyond current law which already prevents federal funding for abortions. This legislation poses a grave threat to reproductive health services, including contraceptives, for all women.
The divisive attacks on women have got to stop. Democrats in Congress have committed to measuring every effort by whether it creates jobs, strengthens the middle class, and reduces the deficit.
My job in Congress is to make life better for my constituents, the people of South Florida. I go to work each and every day with the expectation that I will do just that, no matter how long it takes. Let's get to work!
