Repower America

We need your help to stop the creation of new global warming pollution from the expansion of the oil-from-tar sands-industry. Specifically, the U.S. Department of State needs to hear from you as soon as possible.

The Department of State is responsible for issuing a permit for the proposed extension of an oil pipeline. The Keystone XL pipeline would carry tar sands oil straight across the Canadian border from Alberta and across the width of the United States to the Gulf of Mexico.

Tar sands oil is the dirtiest oil made on a commercial scale. Why? It produces at least 17% more greenhouse gas pollution than conventional oil. To be precise, over two tons of tar sands have to be mined, transported and refined to produce a single barrel of oil.

Tell the State Department you oppose this pipeline and that they should deny the permit. Submit your comment to Secretary Hillary Clinton. Click here to use our simple tool.
It gets worse: Pipeline operators would not be required to report how much global warming pollution the project produces.

There are many environmental and economic problems with this pipeline proposal: The latest environmental review of the plan showed the pipeline didn’t meet safety standards and that it will burden communities already suffering disproportionately from dirty air and water. But no matter what, even if all of those problems were mitigated, the global warming emissions this project would produce are unacceptable.

We don’t need dirtier oil. The Keystone XL pipeline would deliver the dirtiest oil ever produced with the dirtiest carbon footprint.

The State Department needs to hear from you. Submit your comment today.
