Call Congress – Tell Them to Vote Against the Bad Debt Deal
The debt deal in Washington is a capitulation to the worst of the right wing. It provides substantial cuts with no revenue increases, and promises more cuts in the future if there is not political will to create new sources of revenue. In the words of Representative Raúl M. Grijalva, co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, “this deal does not even attempt to strike a balance between more cuts for the working people of America and a fairer contribution from millionaires and corporations. The very wealthy will continue to receive taxpayer handouts, and corporations will keep their expensive federal giveaways. Meanwhile, millions of families unfairly lose more in this deal than they have already lost. I will not be a part of it.”
The president should fall back on the 14th Amendment to raise the debt limit. The debt ceiling is an arbitrary limit and this crisis is simply a tool to push through cuts that the right wing has sought for years. For this reason, we call on all DSAers to demand an end to the shenanigans.
There is still time to contact Congress:
(202) 224-3121
Tell them:
“VOTE NO on the bad debt deal. Ordinary people have sacrificed enough. America needs jobs and its bills paid.”
