During a speech in front of a crowded VFW Hall in Massachusetts on Wednesday evening, Elizabeth Warren was heckled by a supporter of the Tea Party.
As Warren spoke to the audience, a man interrupted and complained about her support of the Occupy Wall Street movement. When the crowd attempted to shout him down, Warren intervened and asked them to let him speak. He said that he was unemployed and that the Tea Party has been protesting Wall Street longer than OWS. Warren then addressed his statements.
WARREN: “I’m very sorry that you’ve been out of work. I’m also very sorry that the recent jobs bill that would’ve brought 22,000 jobs to Massachusetts did not pass in the Senate.I’ve been protesting what’s been going on on Wall Street for a very long time.”
HECKLER: “Yeah, so has the Tea Party. Well, if you’re the intellectual creator of that so-called party, you’re a socialist whore. I don’t want anything to do with you.”
The crowd immediately resumed shouting him down and he headed for an exit. As he did so, he claimed that Warren’s “boss,” presumably President Obama, was “foreign born.” Unable to exit a side door, he left through the back of the VFW Hall.
This is a multi-pronged event. First, the heckler claims that the Tea Party protested Wall Street. That’s not exactly truthful. The Tea Party protesters have mostly been about protesting President Obama and the government. Second, he called Warren a “whore” which is disrespectful to women everywhere. And third, he is one of the remaining 25% of Republicans who still believe President Obama was “foreign born,” despite mountains of evidence to the contrary. This man is obviously angry but the way he went about showing his anger is unacceptable. He got his facts wrong and was hateful at the same time. Typical for the Tea Party, I’d say.
