OccupyBoise Support Rally

COME ONE, COME ALL!!! Witness the SPECTACLE, the DRAMA, and the incredible pageantry of the forces of the State arriving to take down a PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATION which is SUPPOSED to be PROTECTED by the FIRST AMENDMENT TO THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION! LET’S PUT A THOUSAND PEOPLE IN THE STREETS!!! 5:00 p.m. Monday, February 27, 2012. Be there or be square!Occupy Boise members await a ruling from Judge Lynn Winmill on Monday morning [2/27] regarding a restraining order against the enforcement of the anti-Occupy bill, H 404. As written, the legislation would essentially end Occupy Boise’s peaceful vigil in front of the old Ada County Courthouse, requiring that all tents and materials be removed from the grounds by 5:00pm Monday, or be confiscated and incur a storage fee. Depending on the judge’s ruling about whether or not H 404 violates First and Fourth Amendment rights, the vigil could be allowed up to two weeks or more at the site.

Regardless of the outcome of the court decision, Occupy Boise will hold a General Assembly meeting at noon on Monday, the 27th, at 5th and Jefferson. If the judge rules against an injunction, some members will choose non-violent resistance and possible arrest after 5:00pm. We encourage our fellow citizens to come to the site to observe and be in solidarity with us, and if you are willing, to participate in civil disobedience to defend Idahoans’ constitutional rights.

Working people, living paycheck to paycheck, know that something is wrong in a nation where 400 individuals currently control as much wealth as the poorer 157 million of us. Occupy Boise is a group of patriotic citizens standing up to make life better for the overwhelming majority of Americans. The Occupy movement is not affiliated with any political party and is about economic fairness, not camping. If money is free speech and corporations are people – as codified by the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision – then surely, tents are free speech too.

OccupyBoise Vigil Support Rally at 5pm Mon. Feb. 27, 2012

Come join us in standing up for our Constitutional rights of Freedom of Speech and Assembly in addressing our grievances to what claims to be a representative government but in reality is a corporate owned monopoly beholden to money interests with little interest in the public good.

OccupyBoise seeks to bring Idahoans together on the issues we can agree on and leave the partisan divisions and wedge issues off to the sidelines. Its time to start thinking of the good of the whole community. We have tried the trickle down for the last 30 years, now it time for our voices to be heard. Please come on down and join us. Thank you.
